Sarah Bucci

Director of Strategic Communications

Sarah is a communications strategist with more than a decade of experience advancing conservation, climate, and clean water solutions.

In elementary school, Sarah got her start as a clean water advocate by painting “Chesapeake Bay Drainage: Don’t Dump” on the storm drains of her Maryland neighborhood. Professionally, she launched her career with the national non-profit Environmental America and led successful field campaigns across multiple states. In Miami, Sarah organized protests against plans to drill for oil off Florida’s coast at the height of the BP oil spill. She organized for clean car standards and the clean water rule in the Mid-Atlantic states before becoming the state director of Environment Virginia. From Richmond, Sarah campaigned to protect Virginia’s forestland and drinking water supply from fracking pollution. She also led the state’s federal climate coalition, building power to protect public health and the environment through grassroots organizing, media, and communications.

After four years in Richmond, Sarah headed west. Prior to joining the Water Hub, Sarah served as the communications director for GRID Alternatives, a national clean energy equity organization, where she worked to bring real-world stories of a just energy transition to life. She provided strategic guidance and support to GRID’s policy and program teams, seven regional affiliates, and national Tribal Program. Over the course of her tenure, her press outreach more than doubled the organization’s national media coverage.

Sarah believes the best campaigns are smart and scrappy and the most effective way to create lasting change is to share and elevate personal stories. She calls Colorado home. She’s at her happiest digging in her garden and her preferred mode of transportation is via two feet on a trail somewhere.
