March Water Cooler: Coming together to build stronger

A few months ago, I celebrated one year at Water Hub as Relationships Associate, focusing on maintaining and strengthening the Color of Water directory. Having come from the environmental justice space, I dove into the water world and have expanded my understanding of water and the work to protect it. I have been lucky to learn from such brilliant colleagues, from digital best practices to group facilitation to media pitching, and have pushed my skills through hands-on experimentation and growth.

This month, I will moderate our upcoming media briefing on data centers and water in the West. Thought partners will discuss environmental and community impacts and how businesses and other key stakeholders can prioritize collaborative decision-making in the face of proposed data centers. I started this year with a flurry of meetings on this topic, while also witnessing extraordinary community building in Minnesota and nationwide. Against this backdrop, I have been reflecting on the power and necessity of collaboration through thought partnership, sharing resources, and co-creating solutions. Color of Water member Bre’Shaun Reddick shared in his spotlight last month that “addressing water issues means addressing systems, history, and power, not just infrastructure.”

As a newer face in the water movement, I feel committed to address water at the intersection of systems. I also feel deep gratitude to those who have been here before me, welcoming new people and generations to the power they have to protect water and our planet.
